How to set up SSO in Rippling

Updated over 3 months ago

Requirements: The Rippling App Management package (also known as the Rippling Identity & Access Management Package) is required by Rippling to have access to this integration. The Rippling App Management package gives Rippling customers access to apps offered in the Rippling App Shop. Please be sure to have access to this package before starting this integration.

What is the Rippling integration?

Motivosity’s integration with Rippling is the easiest way for you to stay on top of all your employee changes in one location. This allows for a seamless synchronization of your new employees, updating existing employee information, and terminated employees between your Rippling and Motivosity platforms. We want your employees to have the best experience with Motivosity and to stay connected. This integration is the first step in making sure all your employee data is up to date through simple automation.

This article will help walk you through how to setup the SSO portion of the integration. This functionality will allow employees access to Motivosity in one click. That way, employees can instantly log in and get connected and start receiving appreciations for their hard work.

Before setting up this integration: Please note that once you have an integration in place, your HR platform will become the SOURCE OF TRUTH for employee data you are feeding into Motivosity. Any changes made in Motivosity will be overwritten by this Integration. Issues with data accuracy will need to be addressed in your HR platform.

How to setup SSO with Rippling

When you integrate with Rippling, Motivosity will automatically generate an SAML integration along with the user sync. You can configure to use this portion of the integration if you choose which will allow employees access to Motivosity in one click.

Please note, if you already have an existing SSO integration, this will not override you current sign in method.

There are two methods to integrate SSO with Rippling. First, you can continue setting it up in the middle of the initial installation, or if you have already been using the integration, you can set it up from the app overview page in Rippling. This article will take you through both setup options.

Configuring SSO During Initial Rippling Installation

During the initial configuration of the Rippling integration, you'll have the option to set up your single sign-on functionality. From the Finished installation page, select the "Continue with Single sign-on" button.

Next, select the "Set up Single Sign On now" button. Then select "Continue".

You can the select the "Move to Next Step" button in the lower-left corner since the configuration of the SAML metadata has already been configured in Motivosity.

To prevent other people in your company to sign in to the Motivosity admin account, please select "Don't let [COMPANY NAME] admins sign in to Motivosity admin account" then select "Continue".

Next, if you have any group attributes you would like to use, you can configure them on this screen. If you leave this blank, the SSO configuration will apply to all those who have access to the app already. When you are ready, select "Continue".

From the next screen, you can test the Rippling connection to Motivosity by selecting the "+ Connect via Rippling" button. If you do want to to test the connection with this button, please be sure you are fully logged out of Motivosity first. When you are ready, select "Continue".

Please Note: If you are having any issues connecting to Motivosity via Rippling, please contact our amazing support team with the Help Widget either in our Help Center or in Motivosity in the lower left corner.

Once you have successfully connected to Motivosity via Rippling, the installation is complete!

Configuring SSO After Initial Rippling Installation

If you have completed the Rippling integration without configuring single sign-on, you can always go back and configure it at a later time.

To start this process, head to the Overview page on the Motivosity app in Rippling and select, "Setups"

Here you will be brought to a configuration screen to start the SSO process. When you ready, select "Setup now". You will then follow the same steps you see above.
