Connecting Motivosity and Slack: Real-Time Team Connection

The Motivosity Slack integration is designed to bring the energy and engagement of your platform directly into your team's daily conversations. By connecting the two, you ensure that every key moment—from milestone celebrations to instant appreciations—is seen and acknowledged, right where your team works.

What to Expect: The Central Motivosity Feed

Once connected, your designated Slack channel acts as a real-time feed, capturing all the core interactions happening in Motivosity. This helps keep company culture visible and ensures no one misses out on a celebration or recognition moment.

The feed is designed to share positive news and key events automatically. You can expect to see the following types of posts:

Recognition and Appreciation

These posts ensure a culture of immediate feedback and acknowledgment:

  • Appreciations: Every appreciation posted on the main feed will appear here, instantly sharing who is thanking whom, and why.

  • Recognition Awards: Notifications of official, company-level awards given out to employees.

  • Achievements: Posts signaling when users or teams complete specific, measurable goals or badges within the Motivosity platform.

  • Highlights: Featured stories, posts, or significant events that are deliberately highlighted by administrators.

Milestones and Events

Celebrate your employees' journeys automatically:

  • Anniversaries: Notifications celebrating employee work anniversaries and tenure.

  • Birthdays: Posts recognizing employee birthdays (if configured to be public).

  • New Hire Posts: A warm welcome post for new employees joining the company.

  • Service Shoutouts: Posts that specifically highlight great customer service or internal support moments.

  • Announcements: Official company announcements posted in Motivosity.

Go Beyond the Main Feed: Mapping Spaces to Channels

While the standard integration pushes all main feed activity to one designated Slack channel, you have the flexibility to link specific Motivosity Spaces to different Slack channels.

This is perfect for departmental, regional, or project teams who want to keep their focused recognition separate from the company-wide feed.

Example Use Case: You can route all appreciations given within the 'Sales Team Space' directly to the #sales-recognition Slack channel, ensuring that only relevant team members see that activity, rather than cluttering the main company feed. You control this mapping within the Slack Integrations Setup page (see Section 3).

Setting Up the Motivosity Slack Integration

This integration creates a powerful, two-way connector between Motivosity and Slack. Users can see appreciations in their communication channel and can also post new ones directly from Slack.

Step-by-Step Setup Guide

To connect Motivosity with your Slack workspace, follow these administrative steps:

  1. Access Integrations: Head over to the Setup area and navigate to the Integrations page.

  2. Select Slack: Find the Slack tile under "Available Applications" and click it.

  3. Activate: A modal will appear asking for activation. Please click 'Activate'.

  4. Review and Add: Once activated, the Integrations page for Slack will appear. Please double-check the integration options to ensure the types of posts you want integrated (including mapping any specific Spaces). Once done, click the "Add to Slack" button.

  5. Authorize and Select Channel: You will be prompted to authorize usage and select a default public chat channel where Motivosity posts will first appear (e.g., #general or #motivosity-feed). We recommend selecting a channel that everyone has access to.

  6. Confirmation: Once authorization is complete, the integration is complete!

You should now start to see new Appreciations and Highlights showing in the channel you selected. Users will be notified when there are new items shared and when they are specifically mentioned in a post!

Giving Appreciations Directly from Slack

A key feature of the integration is the ability for any user to post an appreciation without switching applications.

From the connected Slack workspace, team members can now give Appreciations by using the /mv slash command:

  • Type /mv and hit enter.

  • Or, for a faster start, type /mv Person's Name (make sure the name matches the user's name in Motivosity) and hit enter.

After you have hit enter, a pop-up form will appear, allowing you to send out appreciations in a similar format to the main app, but with the convenience of not leaving Slack.
