Recognition vs Achievement Awards

Knowing what kind of Award you want to create is going to be very important. Here is a quick breakdown of the two different kinds of awards you can create:

  • Recognition Awards: If you are hoping to recognize one (or more) employees for doing something special, then the Recognition Award is the one for you. With this award a person who is in charge of the award will be prompted to give the award on a regular basis. These awards may accept nominations, and can be given out based on time-frames that you choose.

    • The most common example of a Recognition Award would be an Employee of the Month award.

  • Achievement Based Awards (this article): If you want to nudge your employees to DO something specific, then an Achievement based award is for you. These awards will show up on every user's profile.

    • Some common examples of Achievement-Based Awards would be Read the Culture Code Book, Write a Glass Door Review, Refer a Friend, etc.

Creating an Achievement-Based Award

Achievement awards are a simple way to motivate your employees to take action on key company initiatives. To create an achievement award you. must be logged in as an administrator. Navigate to the awards tab at the top or you can go to the admin setup/awards tab. When you click add new award you will see the option to select the achievement-based award.

Questions to Consider:

  • How frequently should your employees be able to earn this award?

  • Do you want your employees to actively claim this award? Or will you be tracking this externally?

  • Do you want Motivosity Bucks tied to this award?

There are two places within Motivosity to create an award. You can either go to Setup > Awards > +New Award

... or you can click on Awards at the top of the page then click Create a New One from the "Awards I manage" section.

When you first open the awards page, you will see an invitation to start creating awards. If you are an admin when you click the link to create an award, you will see a dialog box like this, otherwise, you will start on the first page of creating a recognition award

Setting up award details

You can select from a gallery of Motivosity award icons or upload your own. Start this process by clicking on the 'Upload icon at the top. You will then give the name of the award that will be visible to your employees. Provide a brief description of what this award is and finally the frequency that it Is given out. You can also configure an external URL. This external URL will show as a link on the 'awards I can earn tab'. These links can go to external websites like your LMS platform, wellness platform, Sharepoint or any other place where an employee needs to take action to earn the award. URL entered must contain HTTP:// or HTTPS:// in the ULR. Finally, you can name that external URL like "Access LMS"

Achievement Reporting

How should your employees mark achievement complete? We give you a couple options first they can provide a response in the platform. Second, as an administrator if you are tracking the completion of this activity outside of the platform you can bulk upload the award to all those who completed it. You can also manually give these awards out as well. This gives you maximum opportunity to streamline the work flow for completing an achievement.

In addition to reporting an achievement as complete you have the option to provide instructions that will display when an employee marks the achievement complete. You can ask them to attach screen shots or documents on submission. All submissions will be available as an administrator for review and approval.

Money

If you attach money to the award, the dollars will need to be set up with the central budget. the field will appear that will allow you to control how much will be awarded. You can set up a budget amount and a frequency for that budget. You will also have the opportunity to attach a gift to the award.

Award Controls

Here you will be able to limit which country/group/departments can receive these awards. You will also be able to control which users are allowed to manage/give these awards and if the award should be given publicly or privately. Choosing 'Inactive' will have this award not appear in any lists.

New achievement awards will show up at the top of the awards screen under Awards available to earn now.

Giving an Achievement Award

When it is time to give an award that you manage, simply click on awards at the top of the page, then look for the Awards I Manage section:

If you would like to give a nomination based award, click "Review Nominations & Achievements." You can see more information about this here. Otherwise, you can click "Give Now" to give this award:

You can choose the employee(s) who should receive the award, type why they are getting the award, and you can even edit the default amount as long as you're staying within the budget set while creating the award.
