How to customize the display of the Home Feed Appreciation Block for your users.

Updated over a month ago

Encouraging employee recognition is a core part of fostering a positive workplace culture. To help create a personalized and engaging experience, admins can customize appreciation settings within the platform. These settings allow for modifications to the default appreciation prompt, the appreciation post icon, and the background color for certain image types.

By tailoring these elements, you can reinforce company values, improve engagement, and make employee recognition feel more authentic. Below, we’ll walk through each customization option and share best practices for optimizing them to enhance the overall appreciation experience.

Appreciation Customization Options

Within Setup > Account Preferences, you’ll be able to find three key customization options under the Application Interface section.

Default Appreciation Block Text

The appreciation input field includes a default placeholder text that encourages users to recognize their peers. By default, it displays: Who Do You Appreciate?

Admins can modify this text to better reflect company culture and the tone of internal communication with any message up to 40 characters long. Some alternative examples include:

  • Casual & Fun: “Give a shoutout!” or “Spread some appreciation!”

  • Formal & Professional: “Recognize a colleague.” or "Acknowledge great contributions."

  • Value-Focused: “Who embodied our core values?” or "Who went above and beyond?"

💡 Best Practice: Choose a phrase that aligns with your company culture and encourages regular engagement. Avoid overly long or complex prompts—short and inviting text is more effective in prompting users to participate.

Appreciation Block Icon

The appreciation post icon appears alongside each recognition post. Admins can replace the default icon with a custom image to better represent their organization’s recognition theme. You could consider using:

  • A company logo or branded icon to reinforce corporate identity.

  • A trophy, medal, or thumbs-up to symbolize achievement.

  • A unique team mascot or symbol that resonates with employees.

💡 Best Practice: Use a high-quality, transparent PNG image for a polished and professional look. These icons should also be square (1:1 aspect ratio) in order to fit, as rectangular logos will end up being cut off slightly.

3. Icon Background Color (For Transparent Images Only)

If the appreciation icon is a transparent PNG, admins can select a custom background color to help the icon stand out. This is useful for ensuring visibility and matching company branding. If the uploaded icon has a solid background, this setting will not apply, as the image will automatically fill the space.

💡 Best Practice: Choose a background color that complements your brand colors without clashing. If using a light icon, opt for a darker background for contrast, and vice versa. Test different colors to ensure readability and visual appeal.

Final Tips for Effective Appreciation Customization

Keep it Simple & Recognizable – Overly complex icons or long prompts may reduce engagement. Stick to clear, inviting visuals and concise wording.

Reflect Company Culture – If your workplace is more formal, choose appreciation text and icons that reflect that tone. If it’s more casual, have fun with the customization!

Encourage Frequent Participation – Use inclusive language in your appreciation prompt to ensure all employees feel encouraged to participate. Phrases like “Who made a difference today?” foster more engagement than limiting wording.

By leveraging these customization options effectively, your organization can create a meaningful and visually appealing recognition experience that resonates with all employees.
